Safety and “Turkey Teeth”: the questions UK patients should ask
“Turkey Teeth” is a search term, not a treatment. It usually describes poor outcomes from over-aggressive preparation and rushed decisions. The way to avoid it is to ask better questions before you book, wherever you have treatment.
The phrase “Turkey Teeth” is used online for crowns placed on healthy teeth, prepared too aggressively, often presented as veneers and fitted too quickly. It is not a diagnosis, not a treatment name and not a description of every treatment in Türkiye. The same mistakes can happen anywhere. What protects you is a licensed treating clinician, imaging before a plan, a written plan you understand, the least invasive suitable option and clear aftercare arrangements.
Checks worth making before you book anywhere
- Who is the treating clinician? Ask for their name, qualifications and registration, and confirm they will personally carry out or supervise your treatment.
- Is the clinic licensed? In Türkiye, clinics and clinicians are licensed by the Ministry of Health. Ask how you can verify this.
- Is a plan made before or after imaging? A responsible plan follows examination and imaging. A fixed price before anyone has seen your teeth is a warning sign.
- Veneer or crown, tooth by tooth? Ask for a written list. Ask how much healthy tooth will be removed and why that option was chosen over a less invasive one.
- What materials and which laboratory? Both belong in the written plan.
- How much time is allowed between preparation and fitting? Rushed schedules are where quality is lost.
- What happens if something goes wrong after you go home? Ask who you contact, what the clinic will do and what it will cost. Read our aftercare page.
What we do as your coordinator, and what we cannot do
What we do
We work only with licensed partner clinics in Antalya; we make sure you receive a written plan and a quote with inclusions and exclusions before you commit; we do not use pressure tactics, artificial deadlines or exaggerated transformations; and we stay your point of contact before, during and after your trip.
What we cannot do
We do not make clinical decisions, we do not perform treatment and we cannot promise a particular result. Those decisions and responsibilities sit with the treating clinician, who will discuss risks, alternatives and limitations with you before you consent.
Your responsibilities
- Tell the clinician about your medical history, medication, allergies and smoking, and about any previous dental work.
- Ask questions until you understand your plan. If something is unclear, do not sign.
- Follow the aftercare instructions and attend the reviews you are asked to attend.
- Keep copies of your plan, quote and clinical documents.
Warning signs on any website, including ours
- A fixed price or a promised number of veneers before any assessment.
- Promises of a particular look or outcome.
- Timers, “last places” or discounts that expire in hours.
- Before-and-after photos with no information about consent or what was actually done.
- Crowns described as veneers.
If you see any of these on this website, tell us and we will correct it.
Common questions
Is dental treatment in Türkiye regulated?
Yes. Clinics and clinicians are licensed by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Health. New Look Smile is authorised as an international health-tourism intermediary; it is not a clinic. The UK General Dental Council regulates dental professionals in the UK and does not regulate treatment carried out abroad.
Can I have my UK dentist look at the plan?
Yes, and we encourage it. Ask us for the written plan and take it to your dentist before you decide.
What if I need work redone after I return?
Ask about this before you book. The treating clinic sets out any terms in your written plan. Follow-up arrangements for UK patients vary and we will tell you what applies to your case rather than advertise something we cannot confirm.
